23 foreign missions issued a joint statement in support of LGBTQI+ in Ukraine

On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, diplomatic missions of 22 European countries, Canada, as well as the EU Delegation and the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, have issued a joint statement. In the document, international partners clearly linked Ukraine’s European path to ensuring equality and respect for human dignity.

The embassies welcomed the presence in the country of public discussions and legislative initiatives aimed at criminalizing hate crimes and introducing the institution of civil partnerships. At the same time, the statement contains mild but clear criticism of the pace of reforms. The partners recalled that the movement towards non-discrimination is a prerequisite for Ukraine’s full European integration, but key legislative changes have not yet been implemented.
